The main issue that many people have relates to the inconsistency throughout America of laws purporting to protect workers rights. You also must realize that the reported hours and the hours actually worked may be significantly different, only because many businesses claim you should be able to do your work in that time or the implied availability of someone if you can't. Protecting employee rights is so far from the truth! There is a lack of protections to many classes of employees with respect to working far in excess of 40 hours, while another class is protected from working in excess of that same number of hours because they fall under interstate commerce. A huge discrepency is with salaried employees being exempt from overtime compensation by the present law. People like truck drivers, sales people and many others are also not protected at all.
